Grand Island, Neb. — The City of Grand Island negotiated in good faith with Woodsonia to produce a development agreement to include a sports complex and aquatic center for the Good Life District. The City remains firmly committed to developing the property into a destination that fulfills the goals of the Good Life District.
Agreements of this magnitude are extremely complex and negotiations about them are similarly complicated. Several issues remained unresolved, even after two and a half years of negotiations with Woodsonia.
Rapid progress on this project has always been a priority. The City received a "best and final” offer from Woodsonia on March 5, 2026. This offer did not meet the City's goal of breaking ground in 2026 and did not meet the City's legal obligations when spending taxpayer funds.
To ensure progress on the sports complex and aquatic center, the City issued two requests for proposals (RFPs) for architectural and engineering services, and comprehensive operations, management, and pre-opening consulting services.
After requests for proposals were published by the City, Woodsonia requested the opportunity to present a new proposed agreement directly to city council. Woodsonia will be given the opportunity to present at the open city council meeting on May 12, 2026. The City reminds all qualified respondents that they are welcome and encouraged to submit proposals under the currently published RFPs pursuant to the procedures outlined in those solicitations. The City of Grand Island is moving this project forward!
